Camping trip!
This past weekend Justin, Canon, Norman, and I went camping in the mountains right by Guanilla Pass (which is supposed to be 'THE' place to see the aspens in the fall). We had such a fun time (though a bit tired after it was all through)...
On Friday, Canon sat and played while Justin and I set up camp.
Then we all went on an easy hike at a trail right by our campsite.
The view was stunning all weekend long.
Justin made a point to show Canon ALL the fish in the river.
Canon just loved being outside -- he talked, sang, ate, and napped in the Kelty! That night after a campfire and toasty marshmallows, we went to sleep and listened to the braying of Elk.
On Saturday we woke up, had breakfast with hot coffee in front of a cozy fire, and made our way up to the Shelf Lake trail for our all-day hike.
We have to go OVER that peak and over many more to get to our destination.
The skies were blue and the weather was WONDERFUL for the first half of the hike.
After two hours of uphill hiking (gasp, I thought marathon training would have me in better shape than this!), we stopped for lunch and a diaper change.
After another hour we neared the top, even Justin and Norman were feeling the "burn"!
Aaahhh, our destination at last -- Shelf Lake!
Canon was very pleased to finally get a break from the Kelty and crawl around for a while.
Unfortunately, what you don't see in these pictures is the ominous sky in the other direction. Dark clouds were rolling in fast and it could have made for a very snowy hike down, Justin was only able to make about 10 casts before we high-tailed it out of there.
On the way down, we stopped at these beaver ponds so we could refuel again and Justin was able to pull in some fish (whew, not a complete loss!).
That night we got back to our campsite with incredibly wobbly legs (not sure another voluntary 7 hour hike will be in the near future for us) and we were just able to squeeze in a yummy dinner before it started to rain.

Justin and I sat on the "veranda" of our tent and discussed what we wanted to be when we grew up as the rain fell all around us. We turned in early for a dry, cozy night in our tent and fell asleep to the sound of rain.
